A Very Successful Year for the WOA!

The past year was a great success for the WOA. Starting out with the first meeting on September 28, 2009, that was followed shortly by the World Ostomy Day celebration on October 3rd. The WOA did a super job of "Reaching Out", which was this year's theme. The organizing committee and the volunteers all deserve congratulations.

Next, on November 14th, the WOA successfully exhibited at the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada (CCFC) Symposium spreading the word about the WOA. Subsequently, the WOA gave a presentation for a group of nursing students on November 18th at the Assiniboine Community College in Winnipeg which was very well received. After that, on November 29th the Annual Christmas Party took place at the Norwood Hotel. A great time was had by all. Visitor re-training, which preserves the high standards that the program has achieved, was held on April 10, 2010. The visiting program, of course, continued to provide excellent support to new ostomates throughout the year! The Annual Wine & Cheese wrapped up the year's standard meetings on May 26th. On June 5th, the WOA hosted a special meeting in Portage la Prairie which was a great success. Also in June, the WOA received a letter from the President of Friends of Ostomates Worldwide Canada thanking the WOA for the "huge" donation of supplies. In more good news, the WOA is sending two young ostomates to camp this summer!

That's quite a list! You can catch your breath now. Thanks to the WOA executive, committee members and volunteers, without whom none of this would be possible.

I wish everyone an enjoyable, relaxing summer. Let's hope we stay as healthy as the weeds and mosquitoes (where they don't get sprayed!)

Stay healthy,
Mike Leverick, Webmaster.
