Youth Camp Fund
In the past The Winnipeg Ostomy Association has had the opportunity on a regular basis to sponsor a young ostomate to the Ostomy Youth Camp, operated by the United Ostomy Association of Canada, near Bragg Creek, Alberta. For several years in the early 1990's we often sponsored two. From 1997 until 2002 we were not able to sponsor anyone. In 2002 we sponsored Kristin Matichuk of Atikokan, Ontario. At the November chapter meeting we had the opportunity to view a video, produced by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, of the camp that Kristin attended in July of that year. A letter from Kristin, telling of her experiences at camp, appeared in the September 2002 edition of Inside Out. She was very grateful of the support she received from the Winnipeg Ostomy Association.
Many of our members would like to sponsor a young person to camp on a yearly basis. At the January Executive Meeting discussions will take place on setting up a special fund for the Youth Camp. Hopefully we will be able to present a possible proposal to the January Chapter Meeting.
