At this time I would like to highlight and honour our wonderful E.T.’s. I don’t feel that we have let them know in the past how much they are really appreciated. We have the best E.T’s found anywhere in the country. Our E.T.’s are well informed, involved, approachable and always looking for better ways of providing care for ostomates. They attend our Chapter meetings on a regular basis to help answer our questions, assist the Visitor’s Co-ordinator in the Visitor Training Course, and often attend our social functions, all on their own time. They have become our friends as well. They work hard with the Manitoba Ostomy Program to ensure the products that we are receiving are suitable for our use. In the fall of 2005, the E.T.’s decided to disband their social fund and felt that the appropriate spot to have their money go to would be the WOA’s "Mile of Pennies". This is the Chapter’s fundraising effort in the hopes of raising enough money to send a young ostomate to the Ostomy Youth camp in Alberta. To the E.T.’s we owe a great big "Thank You" for their thoughtfulness, generosity and support. There are many other areas that these very special people touch our lives and I would welcome comments from you, our readers, so that our thanks will be ongoing.
Further to Youth Camp. Because of the privacy issue we have to leave the search for such a youth up to the E.T.’s - which they have been working on for the last two years. If any of you know of a possible camper out there, please contact one of our E.T.’s. To find out more about the Ostomy Youth camp, you may contact one of the Executive or check the website: www.ostomycanada.ca/camp (NOTE: As of January 1, 2006, the date listed is for the 2005 camp, please contact the Camp Coordinator for the dates of the camp in 2006.)
May 2006 bring you all health, happiness, good friends and many joyous occasions.
Lorrie
