Christmas Party 2006

Christmas Party

A decision to change from dinner to a luncheon for our Christmas party on Dec.3, 2006 brought out a large number of our members. As usual, our location was the Norwood Hotel where the very pleasant and accommodating staff treated us royally. Members arrived to the welcoming harmonica music of Sam Knacker. As members came bearing silent auction items, Helmut & Gretta worked hard to make room and display them all. Our people had a chance to mix and mingle, introduce family and friends and meet some new prospective members. Lorrie welcomed everyone to our event, Grace was said by Helmut and the buffet luncheon started at 1:30 P.M. as table numbers were called.

Following dessert, presentations were made to Helmut Friesen for serving as 1st Vice President for 7 years as well as taking on other responsibilities in the Chapter. Barb Pryce & Evelyn Waldera were presented with "Most Valuable Member" awards for their many years serving on the Reception/Hospitality committee. All three received gift certificates to the Royal Crown as a thank you for a job well done. Lorrie provided a couple of Christmas games to add to the afternoon's fun. Our entertainment was the husband and wife team of Henri & Marie Enns who called themselves, "Sugar & Old Spice". Henri & Marie, who are well known in the music circles of Winnipeg, played and sang secular and non secular Christmas music which contributed to the party mood.

The next portion of the party was turned over to the very capable and entertaining Helmut Friesen. Helmut used humorous commentary to make the Silent Auction a fun and laughter filled addition to our afternoon. As we prepared to say goodbye for the year and find our way home, Sam played "Silent Night" as a very fitting close to a wonderful day.
