A smaller number attended than anticipated, but as one already knows, numbers don't count. This did not deter from our dedicated volunteers and instructors achieving a most successful session.
Marcie Lyons RN. ET conducted discussions on. "Rules and Regulations" including:
(a) Need for identification, (b) Not recommending products or showing pouch, (c) No Medical advice to be given.
The second "Group discussion & Presentations" focused on the following: (a) Role of Visitor, (b) How to have a successful visit, (c) Concerns from past visits and unusual situations.
We broke for coffee, goodies and conversation.
A third "Group Discussions & Presentation" focused on (a) Temporary Ostomy (b) Patient is disabled (c) Gay/Lesbian (d) Sexuality (e) Depressed. Question and Answer period. This proved to be very challenging and informative, everyone related experiences. A few, in certain situations, never encountered these situations throughout their years of volunteering.
A hand of applause to Marcie Lyons who led the major part of the sessions for a job well done. One is ever thankful for ET's who are there for everyone requiring assistance, be it big or small. We missed Mary Robertson's presence as she was ill.
Zerlina Zamnuik came forward with the Ostomy undies. A good selection for everyone! Being PANELED and kept UNDER CONTROL means a lot to everyone. Thanks Zerlina.
Lunch was sponsored by Shelly Luhning – representative for Coloplast. Thank you ever so much.
Brock Master's DVD "Reach for the Sky" was received well by everyone. Lorrie Pismenny, President made mention of the "Advantages of attendance" at meetings and thanked everyone for participating in this session.
Cathy Zitzelsberger, Visitor Coordinator spoke on the Manual and the importance of recording Ostomy visit referrals when called upon. Cathy made note that additional supplies are made available at each Chapter meeting. No need to run out. Handouts including newsletters, articles and tear off sheets were available to each visitor.
A job well done! This Session was most enjoyable, a great deal was accomplished by all present.
In concluding this report it was pointed out --- ‘PEOPLE FIND STRENGTH IN ONE ANOTHER AND WITH OUR ‘DEVOTED' VOLUNTEER VISITORS IT IS HAPPENING'!!!
