March/April 2000

From The President's Desk

Greetings! I do hope you have wintered well. This is being written with a couple of days left in February and with the unusually warm temperatures and rain of the last few days it almost seems like summer should be arriving soon. But we all know that March can bring some pretty nasty weather. It is probably not a good idea to break out the sunscreen just yet. Due to a mouth and a half love/hate affair with the flu (the flu loved me/ I hated it) I missed most of December and part of January. Our Christmas party early December, Christmas itself and New Year's were all casualties. I understand the Christmas party was a great success, everybody found the Shadow Buddies video to be most inspiring and the guest speaker had everybody in stitches.

Your executive has been working hard this year. We have been working on a new constitution. It should be ready for the membership's approval in the fall. We are proposing a move to a new location, and if we do, I believe this will allow us to better serve all ostomates across the province and also raise awareness of the association in the wider community. Please read V.P. Helmut Friesen's article carefully. We do appreciate your feedback. VP Rooney Weir has taken over the role of Program Convenor for chapter meetings and would appreciate your ideas for topics.

Recently Eric Lansky retired as treasurer. Rosemary Gaffray has assumed the position to complete the term to August 31, 2000. A committee made up of Anne Lecot, Christel Spletzer and Karen Spencer E.T. is busy preparing for the visitor training session on April 15th.

We are now the only ostomy association in the province, as unfortunately the Brandon/Westman Ostomy Association folded at the end of 1999. All of the Brandon members have been invited to join us and I am pleased to report some have already done so. We now have members from all across the province, some in N.W. Ontario and even in Montreal and New Brunswick.

I do hope all is well with you.
