From The President's Desk

Hi all! Despite the bitter weather in Manitoba this winter I do hope you are well and in good spirits. The weather forced us to cancel our January Chapter Meeting.

Membership Fees
In our two most recent newsletters, Nov/Dec 2002 and Jan/Feb 2003, you read of the proposal by the Executive Committee to set our annual membership fee at $40.00 per member. The plan was to discuss this proposal at the January Chapter meeting, which of course did not happen. The responses that we did receive via snail mail and e-mail were all in support of the proposal. The following motion was presented at the Chapter Meeting on February 26th, 2002: Moved by N. Mlynarovich/Seconded by M. Leverick - "That effectively immediately, Membership Fees of The Winnipeg Ostomy Association be set at $40.00 per year per member."

After some discussion, the motion was carried unanimously. The new fee structure is now in effect and is reflected in the membership renewal notices that a good number of you received this month.

This was not taken lightly; it was done after careful consideration of our financial situation. I do hope that all of you will support this decision.

The Connection
For the past number of years, two copies of this newsletter, published eight times a year by the United Ostomy Association of Canada, have been sent to the President and Newsletter Editor of each Chapter across Canada. Contained in The Connection are reports from our National President, Lorne Aronson, Chapter Chatter (activities of various chapters), District Services Reports and often a list of upcoming events. Starting in September 2003 this newsletter will be available by e-mail. Should you wish to receive The Connection via e-mail please submit your e-mail address to our President, Dave Page at a chapter meeting, by voicemail at 237 - 2022 or e-mail at myostomy@shaw.ca

Annual Meeting

At our annual meeting on April 23, 2003, we will be receiving the reports for 2002 and electing officers for the term September 1, 2003 to August 31, 2004. Bill Aitken is the Chair of the Nominating Committee. Should you wish to volunteer for any of the positions on the Executive Committee please contact Bill in Gimli at - 204 642 5978 or via e-mail at bcaitken@mts.net.

For over thirty years the Winnipeg Ostomy Association has worked hard to meet the needs of ostomates across Manitoba. For many years we have appreciated excellent cooperation from the ET nurses in Manitoba not only in our visiting program but also at our Chapter Meetings, i.e. ET on the Hotseat'. The Manitoba Ostomy Program came into being in 1974 with the very active participation of our members working with the government. That continues to this day as two of our members are on the Manitoba Ostomy Product Committee which oversees the procurement, distribution and monitoring of ostomy supplies in Manitoba. In order for us to continue these activities we need dedicated volunteers, not only on the Executive Committee but also in other areas such as Fundraising, taking charge of our Library, Transportation Committee and others positions.

Please volunteer!

See you at the April 23rd meeting,

Dave Page, President, Winnipeg Ostomy Association, Inc.
