Since the formation of the W.O.A. in 1971, chapter meetings have been held in the auditorium of the St Boniface Hospital. That is about to change. This month's wine and cheese party will be our last meeting at this location.
After discussions at the February and March meetings and the article in the March/April newsletter, the membership at the Annual General Meeting endorsed the recommendation of the executive to accept the invitation of the SMD Self Help Clearing House to become a member organization.
Our membership application has been approved effective June 1, 2000. Over the summer we will be arranging our office in preparation for our Chapter meetings resuming in the fall. At this point, I cannot give you the exact date of our monthly meeting in September. However, you will be notified of the date well in advance.
"The best we've ever had". Those comments were made at the conclusion of the visitor training seminar on April 15, 2000. Over thirty people took the training. Their names have now been submitted to the United Ostomy Association of Canada office for certification. The guest presenters Dr. Nobby Woo, Barb Nolin, E.T.'s Marcie Lyons and Karen Spencer were much appreciated. The organizing committee, Karen Spencer, Christel Spletzer and visiting coordinator Anne Lecot are to be highly commended.
Elsewhere, you will read the results of the election of officers for the term beginning September 1, 2000. One position remains vacant, that of secretary. It would be very much appreciated if someone would volunteer. If you are interested in this position, please contact our nominating chairperson Christel Spletzer. Please phone her at 661-3068.
Anne Lecot and Bill Aitkin are stepping down from the executive this year. Both have set a very high standard. Thank you Anne and thank you Bill for all that you have done for the Winnipeg Ostomy Association. I look forward to your continuing participation.
