When first elected in 1996 I certainly had no expectation of being in the position this long. Though at times frustrating, I have enjoyed these nine years immensely. I have had the honour and privilege of representing WOA at every annual meeting, but one, of the United Ostomy Association of Canada since the first meeting held in Canada in 1997. The first meeting in 1997 was held in conjunction with 9th World Congress of the International Ostomy Association. During the Congress I had the opportunity to meet ostomates from around the world. I still correspond with a few of them. At the 'Canada Day' meeting, acting at the request of WOA, I voted in favour of the chapters in Canada affiliating with UOAC.
I have had the opportunity of developing lifetime friendships with ostomates not only locally but also Canada wide. I thank you, the membership for that. Our National Conference this year, is of course here in Winnipeg, as Co - Chair what a fitting way for me to complete my time as President of the Winnipeg Ostomy Association. When one door closes, often another door opens, and for me, it has. I have accepted appointment as Chapter Representative, District Support Services, United Ostomy Association of Canada, effective immediately. Also, I will be continuing as the Editor of Inside Out.
So, this is not farewell, but more like, See you at the Chapter Meeting!!
CONGRATULATIONS, LORRIE!!
