From The President's Desk

Weather! I think that is THE topic of interest for everyone across Canada. In an e-mail that I sent out to some members I wrote ….

"I'm trying to find something positive about this weather. Perhaps it is helping me get things done that would otherwise be put off until later."

One of the members, Nurit Drory replied……..

"I think you're right about the weather. Put a positive spin on it. Everyone is suddenly cleaning. But never compare with people who do more, or this ( below) is what can happen.

I was on the phone with a cousin of mine who said, "It's hard enough just to get through the day." So, very sympathetically, I said, "Yea, I haven't even got dressed yet today and it's already five o'clock." And she said, "I'm not dressed either. But I've got a lot done. I did seven loads of laundry and cooked a soup. And I made breakfast and lunch ( for her and her husband), and baked cheese muffins."

So what was I to tell her? That I slept in, had a bad dream, spoke to my grandson on the phone, and planted six little tiny flowers in six little tiny pots for the balcony? I know it's not a competition, so why do I feel somehow deficient?"

Saturday, October 3, 2009, 11:00am to 3:00pm
World Ostomy Day (WOD) Family BBQ
Westworth Church, 1750 Grosvenor Ave.

Mark this date on your calendar and plan to attend with family and friends in tow. We need your support through your attendance or volunteering to make this event a great success. Some of the plans include entertainment, exhibits, attendance draws, and other events not finalized as yet.

Wednesday, June 24, 2009 - 7:30pm to 9:30pm, SMD Bldg. Room 203. This special meeting has been called to work on further plans for WOD before we break for summer. This is a great fellowship opportunity. We look forward to seeing you all at this important meeting.

Further to the Disability Tax Credit. Doug Turner, a fairly new ostomate stood up at our October chapter meeting and urged everybody to apply for this credit. He had applied and was successful. He found it to be quite "lucrative". This prompted us to invite The Disability Tax Credit Services (not connected with the government) to speak to our group in November. They explained the process and offered to make the application on our behalf (for a price of course). Sadly, Doug is not with us but we all gained from him sharing his experience with us. I received my refund from the government (in the thousands of dollars) and I have heard from many others who have been just as successful or even more so. So, if you haven’t done anything about this, I suggest that you contact representatives Cheryl Kehler or Shonna Pepper at (204) 221-8628 to see what they can do for you. I also invite you to call me (489-2731) if you would like to discuss this further.

I leave you with a little bit of laughter thanks to Nurit; WOD celebrations being planned; thoughts of money dancing in your heads; and wish you all a warm and sunny summer.

Best Regards,
Lorrie
