U.O.A.C. President's Message

Pat Cimmeck, President, United Ostomy Association of Canada

Hello Friends
It's time to recess for the summer break. I know that a lot of chapters are planning their year - end get togethers and making plans to send delegates to conference. Delegate registration forms have been sent out to the chapters from the office and you should receive them sometime the week of June 13. If you DON'T receive delegate registration forms, please contact the office and we will send them out to you. If your chapter isn't sending a delegate to conference, please fill out the proxy voting form. You and your votes can still be represented at National Council by assigning another chapter or District Support Services personnel to vote on your behalf. Just fill in the name of the chapter or DSS person you wish to vote your chapter wishes and return the form to the office. Be sure to inform the chapter or DSS person that you wish them to vote on your behalf BEFORE conference.

Delegate packages for registered delegates will be sent out from the office after July 15, 2005.

I was recently notified that our sister organization, UOA Inc., by directive of their board of directors and after 43 years, UOA Inc. will cease operations September 30, 2005. It was quite a shock to hear this news. I know that many chapters and members have ties to UOA Inc. It is hard to believe this could happen and that they felt there were no other options but dissolution. Few details are known at this time. These events certainly give us much to think about and how we can all help make UOAC a strong, viable organization. As details become available, chapters and interested parties will be notified.

In lieu of these recent events, our annual conference becomes a more reflective occasion. Once a year, when we gather together, it gives us the opportunity to share our experiences, accomplishments, and new ideas and to give and receive companionship. It is a time to celebrate UOAC! We have a lot to be thankful for.

On a more positive note, at conference in Winnipeg, we will welcome two new chapters to UOAC. There is a need for our services in the community and establishing new chapters is a step in the right direction.

This will be the last issue of the Connection until September. On behalf of the board of directors, I wish you all an enjoyable and safe summer! We hope to see you in Winnipeg at conference and FEEL ALIVE IN 2005!
