Hi There,
September has arrived and a new season of activity for the Winnipeg Ostomy Association is upon us.
NEW LOCATION! NEW MEETING DATES! NEW OFFICE!
Last spring we decided to become a member organization of the SMD Clearinghouse at 825 Sherbrook St. By the time you read this we, should be operating out of our new office.
The third Wednesday of the month was not available so we will now be meeting on the fourth Wednesday of the month. Our first chapter meeting of the season therefore will be on Wednesday September 27th beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Rm. 2O3 - 825 Sherbrook St. directly across from the Rehab Hospital in the Health Sciences Complex.
PARKING
Free parking is available on a first come basis in the SMD parking lot to the south of the SMD building. Entrance to the parking lot is gained off McDermot Ave, which runs eastbound from Sherbrooke. Once on McDermot, be ready to turn left into the lot immediately as you will have to circle a long block if you miss the entrance. Upon entering the building drivers must register their cars at the security desk, otherwise you will be ticketed (or worse) towed away. Upon departure you are asked to sign your car out. Proceed up to second floor via the elevator, turn right down the hallway to room 203.
SEPTEMBER 27th MEETING
The September 27th meeting will be very special, as Manitoba Ostomy Program E.T.S Gay Hordienko and Karen Spencer will be with us to tell us all about their experiences at the World Council of Enterostomal Therapists' convention held in July in Singapore. I understand their presentation, " THE MANITOBA OSTOMY PROGRAM: COLLABORATION IN ACTION ", was well received.
UOAC CONFERENCE AUGUST 17 - 19 IN MONTREAL Even though I was elected to be our chapter's delegate to the conference I was unable to attend. I spent eight days in hospital Aug 14 - 21, with a blockage in my stoma. I asked our Treasurer Rosemary Gaffray to replace me as delegate and I know she did an excellent job. You can read Rosemary's report elsewhere in this newsletter. Because of forced absence from national conference, I removed my name from nomination for the Board of Directors. CONGRATULATIONS to Bill Aitken for being re-elected to the national Board of Directors.
CONSTITUTION Finally, your executive has completed work on a new constitution. Over the course of a year we set aside a specific time during our regular executive meeting, and then four of us met one Sunday afternoon until the task was done. A big thank you to Stan Sparkes, Helmut Friesen, Rooney Weir, Bill Aitken, Ann Lecot, Eric Lansky and Rosemary Gaffray for working with me on this project and especially to Carol Aitken for putting it all together so it is readable and understandable in its finished form.
NOTION OF MOTION RE: CONSTITUTION
AITKEN/GAFFRAY: The Constitution of 1981, most recently revised in 1996, be struck from the books, and replaced by a new constitution proposed by the executive.
Copies of the proposed constitution will be available at the Chapter meetings on September 27th and October 25th, 2000. It will be presented for adoption at the chapter meeting on November 22, 2000.
SEE YOU AT THE MEETING SEPTEMBER 27th!!
DAVE PAGE, PRESIDENT
