Youth Camp Letter

Camper Dear Winnipeg Ostomy Association,

I had a great time at camp this summer and met a lot of new friends from all over Canada. I was Rookie of the Year for my team and I completed all of the challenges. A little scary at times but at the end of each challenge I could see how I don’t have to be scared, and that I can do just as much as any other child.

It was great having Pat (Cimmeck) meet me at the airport in Calgary, as I have never flown by myself before. All of the camp Leaders were very nice.

Thanks again for holding this camp because if I hadn’t gone to camp I wouldn’t know any other kids with ileostomies as I live in a very small town and am the youngest person in the area to have my large bowel removed because of ulcerative colitis. Again, the support was great.

Hopefully, I will be going back next year.

(Editor’s note: The Winnipeg Ostomy Association sponsored Kristen to this year’s camp. The United Ostomy Association of Canada runs the Canadian Ostomy Youth Camp every summer at Camp Horizon, outside Calgary. Pat Cimmeck is the UOAC Youth Camp Coordinator.)
