Registration occurs between 8:30 - 9:00 A.M. and the session should be over by 2:30 P.M. Those who need to be recertified will be notified by mail.
The visiting program is an important service provided to new ostomates. The goal of the WOA visiting program is to make available to every ostomate a qualified visitor capable of offering reassurance, understanding and practical information.
The commitment of a visitor includes membership in the Winnipeg Ostomy Association (please see page 10 for details), an initial training session, attendance at a minimum of 3 chapter meetings per year and attendance at a recertification session every three years.
Visitors make an average of 3 visits per year. These visits may be pre or post-operative, take place in the hospital, home, a mutually agreed upon meeting place, or a phone call.
Your name will be submitted to the United Ostomy Association of Canada for certification should the local certification panel feel that you should be certified at this time.
Spouses and Significant Others are more than welcome to attend and are encouraged to become certified visitors.
