Presidents' Support Group

by Lorrie Pismenny

This session was a surprise addition to the conference program and I found it most beneficial. Dave Page participated as a Board member and John Kelemen joined me in this session. Doug Graham, UOAC President called us together to talk about mentoring members to help Chapters find and train new Board and Executive members. I found that the WOA is very fortunate in having a full Executive as there are many who are struggling to fill many positions in their Chapters. The discussions were very informal and varied. Some of the topics that arose included costs of running a Chapter, fund raising, attracting and keeping members, the 20/40 group, visitation, creating great Chapter meetings, delegating and sharing jobs, etc. This session made me realize that we’re all struggling with the same types of problems more or less but that everyone is more than willing to share their successes and strive to learn more. The main idea that I took away with me is the hope that we will be able to mentor more members in our Chapter and to delegate some of the smaller functions to regular members so that our Executive is not over burdened. The group decided that this type of session would be very welcome at future conferences.
