From The President's Desk

Your Executive has been very busy these past few months. In addition to attending the United Ostomy Association of Canada (UOAC)'s 10th Annual Conference in Calgary this August, the Winnipeg Ostomy Association (WOA) had been invited to set up a information booth at the ETs' 4th Annual Education Day Seminar on June 6, 2007. In addition, we attended the recent Society of Manitobans with Disabilities (SMD)'s "Disability, Health & Wellness Conference" on September 24 & 25, 2007 and manned our information booth with help from Chapter members. This is all in an ongoing effort to "get the word out" about the Winnipeg Ostomy Association (WOA).

The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) had sent out a letter informing everyone of the move of the Manitoba Ostomy Program (MOP) program to ACCESS Transcona on Regent. This letter created some confusion amongst members who aren't affected by this move. I hope that the second letter has clarified the situation for you. Anyone who normally sees ETs Mary Robertson and Carisa Ewanyshyn will need to travel to Transcona. All other ostomates will continue to make appointments with their ETs at Health Sciences Centre (HSC) or St. Boniface Hospital (St.B) as usual. The ostomy supply depot on Pearl Street has not changed.

As ConvaTec's first prize of $700.00 for World Ostomy Day (WOD) held on October 7, 2006 was the result of the work of Chapter members, we are looking for ways to spend it that would benefit all members. Any ideas? Let me know.

You will also notice that I have spelled out the complete name of the organizations followed by the acronym in brackets as much as possible to avoid misunderstandings. I do hope that you all will be appreciative of this endeavour and find it helpful.

Best Regards,

Lorrie
