October Chapter Meeting

A "Get Well Soon" message is being sent to a couple of members. Carol Aitken,* who is out of ICU at St. Boniface hospital following a heart attack, has been transferred to the hospital in Gimli. She is gradually getting better. Barb Dunstan, ** whose surgery was cancelled at the last minute has been rescheduled for Nov. 7/07.

Members were reminded about the Visitor Re-certification training, Nov. 24/07 and tickets for our Christmas Party on Dec. 2/07 were available from Helmut Friesen.

ET "On the Hot Seat" was Mary Robertson. She fielded a number of questions ranging from the availability of types of supplies to food blockages. She stated that ET’s have left a set of step by step instructions at hospital emergency departments to follow if a food blockage occurs. These instructions will also be made available to the rural hospitals. Following a coffee break, members were divided into the different ostomy groups including SASO where they discussed a variety of issues.

*At this time of reporting, Carol Aitken reports that she has been out of hospital for 10 days. She only has 30% heart capacity after damage being done to the left ventricle. She is resting and taking it easy with follow-up appointments scheduled with the doctors.
** Zerlina reports that Barb Dunstan has had her surgery and she is doing well.
